Transportation to/from Airport

After much discussion with a few companies, I have secured our transportation between the airport and the port. It ended up being $38.00 per person. I arranged for all 17 of us (Sista Salvation will be coming via her parents and meeting us there).

Happy 51 days until departure!!

Our Itinerary

The first night we will be staying in Houston at the Red Roof Inn. This will cost $10.00 a person and you need to give your money to JRA. We will be attending the Houston Astros- Saint Louis Cardinals game. The cost of the game is approximately $9.00 to be given to Haitian Mama.

On Sunday we will be taking transportation from Houston down to Galveston to board the ship. JRA is still working out a group rate for this but it is looking to cost us about $35.00 per person round trip. We will let you know of the definite price.

The first few days on the cruise, we will just be at sea. So we can spend time on the ship entertaining ourselves. There are swimming pools, a rock climbing wall, shows, shuffleboard (bring it on!) and more. Most of our food is included in the cost of the cruise along with water and lemonade. All other drinks cost extra. Also the gratuity on the ship is $10.00 per day to be paid all at once at the end of the ship bringing the total to $70.00.

Day four we will be docking in Ocho Rios, Jamaica. We will dock at 8:30 am and are given 9 hours ashore. The group has decided to go to Dunn's River Falls. We have decided that it would be cheaper to do this one by ourselves rather than book it through the cruise. The admittance is $15.00 a person. They recommend that you wear water socks or canvas shoes while going up the falls. Most pictures I have seen have people wearing bathing suits while doing this hike.

Day five we will be docking in Grand Cayman at 9:00 a.m. A few members of the group are going to be going scuba diving while the rest of us do our own thing. The group has decided to go snorkeling at Sting Ray City. The cost to book this excursion through the cruise is $45.00 per person and after doing some research JRA discovered that to do it ourselves it would cost $39.00 per person without having transportation, so we were wondering if everyone thought it would be best to do this via the cruise excursion. Let us know what you think. Sting Ray City should take about 3 hours. We thought for the rest of our time it would be fun to go shopping and hit the beaches.

Day six is going to be spent in Cozumel, Mexico. We will dock at 9:00 a.m. and again have 9 hours ashore. Some of the group might be going scuba diving again, but the rest have decided to go visit the Mayan Ruins in the area. To book this excursion through the cruise it costs $74.00 and takes approximately 8 hours. I am doing some research on this and plan to let you know what the best option for this would be. Some of the ruins in the area are the Tumul which are supposed to be absolutely gorgeous and right on the coast.

Also, our last day on ship we are going to do a white elephant gift exchange. You need to find a $5.00 gift while we are there to give.

I think that is everything. If you have any comments or questions, feel free to post them.

What to Pack

Hey peeps - here is a list of what you should pack to wear while on the cruise.
Days onboard are casual, and you'll be most comfortable in sport clothes and resort wear. Shoes should be low-heeled for deck activities (sorry Domestic Goddess - no stilettos!). Bring a few swimsuits so you'll always have a dry one.

Towels will be provided by the cruise, so you will not need to bring those. If you want, you can pack one to bring ashore.

There are three times of evening wear that you will want to bring:
  • Casual: dresses or slacks and blouses for women; sport shirts and trousers for men.
  • Smart Casual: dresses or pantsuits for women; jackets for men.
  • Formal: cocktail dresses for women; suits and ties for men.
While ashore, you will need comfortable walking shoes as well as a hat and sunscreen for protection. Also for Dunn's River Falls it is recommended to bring water socks or canvas tennis shoes since we will be walking through the falls for part of the time.
